National Environment Science Camp, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve

In the month of December 2023, with the advent of winter, campers from all corners — north, south, east, west and central India converged at National Environment Science Camp, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.

Braving the cold of the Himalayan Terai, students from Seth Anandram Jaipuria, Kanpur, tracked a tiger in the wilderness of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, like true naturalists. Our camp was their platform to experience the thrill of camping.

Likewise, campers from Delhi Public School, Raigarh, picked up forest survival skills. They built jungle shelters and tried various cooking techniques in the forest. They toiled to implement these survival techniques. The jungle became their classroom and nature their mentor.

Our camp is not just about survival skills, it’s much more. Like for example, campers from M.C. Kejriwal Vidyapeeth, Howrah, mesmerized everyone with a jungle jamming session during the campfire. Traditional music echoed through the trees as they showcased a terrific performance based on the traditional Dhak music of Durga Puja.

Campers from Little Flower School, Hyderabad undertook an exploration across the Indian frontier right inside Nepal. They ventured through the dense Terai forest to glimpse the majestic Shivalik range of the Himalayas. The course of River Godavari in Nepal became their route guide when they carefully marked the landmark geographical features on a map.

Campers from MCKV, Howrah, experienced the thrill of spotting a tiger despite the dense cover of fog all over —a cherry on top of their unforgettable adventure. They went gaga about the treasures of the Terai forest.

Campers from Eco- Choice group, Vadodara, tested their fishing skills in the River Mohana. Armed with Tharu community-style fishing nets, they traversed through a Sheesham forest and trekked inside Nepal to net their catch. Back in India, they embraced the wisdom of the Tharu community through healthy interaction with the community members. They made remarkable discoveries about eco-friendly lifestyles. They were able to understand the complexities of human-animal conflict. This was as a part of an activity named HUL.

As we step into the New Year 2024, the suspense and expectations of our forthcoming participants have surged further. Campers from Lucknow, Dehradoon, Surat, Delhi and Bengaluru, and way beyond are gearing up for their participation at the National Environment Science Camp at Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.

Please accept our heartiest wishes for a Happy New Year 2024. We also extend a cordial invitation to your esteemed institution to join us in this extraordinary camping event.

Let’s collaborate to usher in the New Year with a firm commitment to conserve Mother Earth.
