The World of Fairies

Like any other kid, I almost lived in the world of fairies and fairytales. Like any other adult, I lost touch with the wonderful world of fairies. Lately, I have realized that fairies are not merely a figment of imagination. They are as real as you and me. They have a world of their own; they live, they breathe, they love, they care, and they communicate with us. Birds, I believe without an iota of doubt, are the fairies our grandmas told us about. We imagine fairies as beautiful creatures with wings, and a bird in flight surpasses the most fantastic image of beauty our minds can conceive.

I rediscovered the lost world of fairies when a friend of mine gifted me a pair of binoculars and initiated me into the practice of bird watching. My very existence has changed since then.

Bird watching has enriched my experience of life. It hasn’t just been an interesting pastime; it has brought back the simple joys of childhood. It has sharpened my observation and concentration, given me a scientific outlook, and made me eco-conscious and immensely sensitive toward nature and wildlife.

I felt that I must tell people about the world of birds, as it may ignite their perception and sensitivity toward nature. Through this small effort, we can still hope for a more beautiful planet.

The NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT SCIENCE CAMP, DUDHWA TIGER RESERVE, is an effort toward this end!
